The attachment of the population of the Valle di Fiemme to its territory and its deep-rooted self-government have in fact an authoritative foundation in the "Magnifica Comunità of the Val di Fiemme", an institution that dates back to the twelfth century, to which the bishop of Trento recognizes as a self administrative autonomy.
The Magnifica Comunità remains an institution which still operates today in the management of the immense forest heritage of the valley, important not only for the correct exploitation of the territory, but also for the maintenance of the historical, social and cultural identity of the valley.
